Wildfires leave Northern California’s wine industry in shambles

Napa and Sonoma vineyards see detrimental loss during busiest season

Wildfires continue to ravage through California as homes and businesses are reduced to ashes in their wake. The pictures show leveled homes and buildings. Officials have estimated 5,700 structures have been devastated by the wildfires.

Some of the nation’s greatest vineyards in Sonoma County and Napa Valley are in great risk of being out of commission for up to four seasons. Napa and Sonoma has contributed almost $58 billion to the California economy, producing 85 percent of all US wines. California wine country also brings in billions of dollars as a tourist attraction.

Much of the damage has yet to be assessed due to enforced evacuation but the recovery looks to be a long and costly one. Even buildings and agriculture not taken down by the fire suffered from smoke damage, still causing a lost season.
